ADVENT OF HOMOEOPATHY IN INDIA
In India Homoeopathy came as early as 1810 when, Dr. John Martin Honigberger, disciple of DR. Samuel Hahnemann visited India and treated patients. In his second visit in the year 1839, he treated the ruler of Punjab, Maharaja Ranjit Singh with Dulcamara. In the year 1867, the Banaras Homoeopathic Hospital was established with Shri Lok Nath Moitra as Physician In-charge.
On the 17th February, 1848 Shri Satish Chandra Samanta, M.P. (West Bengal) moved a resolution which runs as follows "This Assembly is of opinion that homoeopathic system of treatment be recognized by the Indian Union and that a General Council and a State Faculty of Homoeopathic Medicine be established at once". This resolution was unanimously adopted. The Government appointed a Homoeopathic Enquiry Committee in 1948 which submitted its report in 1949. In 1952, Raj Kumari Amrit Kaur, then Union Health Minister appointed a Homoeopathic Ad-hoc Committee which functioned up to the year 1954. Thereafter on 17th December 1973, Central Council of Homoeopathy was established by the Government of India with the enactment of Central Council of Homoeopathy Act, 1973 with the following objectives.
"To evolve minimum standards for admission, duration of course of training, details of curricula and syllabi of studies of Homoeopathy, uniform title of degree and diploma, uniform courses of study of not less than four years duration and maintain central register of practitioners of Homoeopathy."
Uniform education in Homoeopathy at diploma and graduate level was enforced in the country in the year 1983. Forum for post graduation has also been notified by Central Council of Homoeopathy. In 1978 separate Central Council for Research in Homoeopathy was established.
HOMOEOPATHY IN RAJASTHAN
A full blown education system of Homoeopathy in private sector was started in 1965. The first affiliation was sought from U. P. Board of Homoeopathy, Lucknow for B. M.S. Diploma.
In 1969, Rajasthan Homoeopathy act came into existence and Rajasthan Homoeopathic Medicine Board was formed which granted affiliation for D.H.M.S. Diploma course in 1977and for B.H.M.S. degree course in 1983.In 1986-87, University of Rajasthan granted affiliation for B.H.M.S Degree course and for the post graduate course i.e. M.D. (Homoeo) in 1991-92. Jaipur is the first in the world to start post graduate courses in Homoeopathy in the year 1991.
In present infrastructure of Homoeopathy in Rajasthan, state have no Government Homoeopathic College and in spite having 6 private colleges running BHMS and P.G Degree courses in Homoeopathy.
